About Planter Kit
I write software during the week and build things out of wood on the weekends. Planter Kit is what happens when those two habits collide.
By day I'm a software engineer. By Saturday morning I'm usually in the garage with a tape measure, tending to a honey-do list or building something new for the house. The woodworking journey started after seeing video's online. Creators the likes of Matthew Peach or Who's The Voss have been an incredible resource and continue to be. I set out to create a tool that builds on the available knowledge - something fully customizable.
Every time i wanted to build something different than whats online, the hardest part wasn't the cutting or the assembly. It was the math beforehand — figuring out how many boards I needed, how long to cut each piece, whether my joinery plan would actually add up to the dimensions I wanted, and how much it was all going to cost before I committed to a trip to the lumberyard. I'd redo the same spreadsheet every time I wanted a slightly different size.
So I did what any engineer with a woodworking habit does: I automated it. Planter Kit turns the dimensions you want into an exact cut sheet — every board, every cut length, a hardware list, and a cost estimate — so you can skip the spreadsheet and get straight to the sawdust.
It's a small, independent project. No investors, no team — just me, trying to build the tool I wished I'd had the first time I built a planter box, and hoping it saves you the same afternoon of measuring twice and cutting once anyway.
